Aussie Lusciously Light Event

29 June 2011

It was fabulous. There were hair stylists giving us the latest catwalk trends, a photographer giving us our very own photoshoots afterwards, a (lusciously) light lunch, bubbles, champagne tasting, candyfloss and goody bags. I'll say no more and let the pictures talk for themselves. By the way, in case you wonder, the girl with me in most of the pictures is Lauren - one of my besties from school and my plus one for the day.

It was in such a lovely venue (Sunbeam Studios in Ladbroke Grove if any of you are wondering) and so nice to meet lots of bloggers for the first time. Big thanks to Emma and Holly at Aussie for organising it.

Festival Attire for the weekend

28 June 2011

This is definintely not another one of those repetitive 'festival chic' posts. This is me literally just showing you what I'm planning on wearing this weekend to my first festival of the year, Hop Farm. I'm super excited to see the likes of Morissey (my fave), Lou Reed and Prince amongst others; hurry up Saturday.

The all important Wellies.
I'm getting my hands on these babies, £25 from Miss Selfridge.
This lightweight tea dress from ASOS, currently
in the sale for £20

I love this bag so much, I just have to have it.
I hope they have it in my local store! £22 - miss selfridge.

£16 from Topshop
Am I being optimistic planning sunnies?

The fab people over at Lee Stafford have introduced me to his colour
extreme range and explained how the variety of colour can be used to create
temporary ombre hair! Using the black colour, spray lightly over the top
half of your hair an brush through. A fab ombre look I will definitely be doing
this weekend! For the braver of you, they also do pinks, blues, greens and
purple colours - give it a go!

On top of this, I will be wearing lots and lots of rings and some pink lipstick. I'm so excited to try and ombre my hair! Are any of you going to any festivals any time soon? What do you think of my outfit?

Tennis - the new way to tone?

27 June 2011

*Image sourced by Wahanda.com*
DID YOU KNOW? Tennis is one of the best sports for:
stamina
• body conditioning
• developing toned muscles
• flexibility
• functional strength
• and honing your reactions with those high-speed serves

It’s the sound of the summer we all love, but there’s more to tennis than the two weeks of excitement fuelled by strawberries and cream at Wimbledon. Taking a leaf out of the tennis pro’s lawn can help you to stay fit and agile all year round, and with the help of the UK’s leading spa and wellness directory (wahanda.com) it doesn’t have to be a hassle to find your nearest offering.

With the stop start nature of the game, you can really soak up the benefits from, but the competitive element means you can push yourself further and harder than you might in the gym. Plus it is sociable too, which is always a winner for me! Whether you’re looking to take up a new sport, tired of the monotony of the gym, or just fancy some fun with your friends, there are some fantastic tennis venues that will bring out the Williams-wannabe within you.

Here are just a few of top tennis locations in the UK:
1. 110 in South East England, including Oxfordshire, the birthplace of Tim Henman!
2. 97 in London, home to Wimbledon two glorious weeks of the year
3. 57 in East Midlands, host of this year’s Special Olympics Regional Tennis Tournament
4. 34 in Yorkshire & Humberside, the home of Roger Taylor, who won six singles titles and ten doubles during his career
5. 14 in Scotland, Andy Murray’s home turf!
6. 11 in Wales, where the now popular game of lawn tennis in part evolved from the old Welsh game of Cerrig y Drudion

Do any of you play tennis regularly? I've not played since I as in school but am definitely gonna check out venues near me, I can't wait to get fit without the monotony!

Sunday Rundown #2

26 June 2011

1. The picture above is me at the fabulous Aussie event yesterday. It was so much fun; there was catwalk hair styling, photoshoots, champagne tasting and a candy floss machine that we got to do ourselves, mine was a bit of a disaster but tasted good anyway. I'll do a whole post on it in the week.

2. I've started back on placement this week, this time on a Stroke Unit. Dear god it is hard, heavy work. I'd only been there an hour and I already felt like I'd been on a treadmill all day! Hopefully my blog won't suffer, but if I choose an afternoon nap over an OOTD post sometimes, I hope you won't hold it against me!

3. I am extremely excited to announce the winners of my giveaway! They were selected by random.org and have all now been contacted...Congratulations girls!

       1st prize winner - Sarah, from Temporary:Secretary
2nd prize winner - Joanna, from Mademoiselle la la
3rd prize winner - Florrie, from Intrinsically Florrie

My week in thrifts

23 June 2011

The past week my thrifty finds seem to be mostly house related, which is quite unusual for me; typically I'm after clothes and jewellery! Here's what I've bought..

This is my new dressing table! Rich and I hunted about on gumtree for a few weeks, and finally this little beauty appeared! It was dark brown like the chair and scratched and stained hence the bargain £20 price tag, but we sanded it down and painted it white to match the rest of the furniture in my dressing room. I love it. Smudgy mirror, whoops.

I snapped up this baby in a charity shop for £4. Earlier in the day Rich had been whinging that my magazines were piled everywhere he looked so when I saw this magazine rack I couldn't say no. I love the floral print and it goes perfectly in our lounge.

These are my favourite finds! These two mirrored pictures were only £5 for the pair. I've never seen anything like them, beautiful! I love the 'La Ritz - Cocktails' text in the corners.

Any banksy fans will recognise these prints! Rich and I love his designs so when we saw this set of 3 canvas prints at a boot sale for £10 we didn't hesitate. Coincedently, the colours match our lounge colour scheme perfectly; it's all creams, greens and browns. I think it looks pretty ace!
What do you think of my finds? Anybody snapped up anything good yet this week?

Monkey Mash-up!

21 June 2011

Kipling launched their “Monkey Mash-Up” last month inviting everyone to indulge their creative sides and customize their own bespoke Kipling monkey. People that visited the website were able to design their own monkey in order to be in with a chance of winning some fab prizes.

To start it all off, Kipling challenged a handful of cool people about town to design their own iconic monkey. These included Susie Lau of international renowned blog Style Bubble, Vogue’s “One to Watch” Alex Brownsell of colour salon Bleach, comic book artist and illustrator Jessica Penfold, illustrator / artist Margot Bowman, the Silver Spoon Attire designers, Paula Goldstein and Valentine Fillol – Cordier of Purple magazine. Now that the competition has ended and the winner announced (congrats, Caroline Carrig!) the monkeys these talented londoners designed are being auctioned off!

Stylist Valentine Fillol Cordier's monkey
By Paula Goldstein, creative director of Purple Magazine
The monkey of designers Silver Spoon Attire
Hair stylist Alex Brownsell's monkey
Blogger Susie Bubble's design

These one of a kind creations are going to be auctioned from 14th of June at Kipling Monkey Mash-up with all proceeds going to the Teenage Cancer Trust, a charity devoted to improving the lives of young people with cancer (if that's not a worthy cause, I don't know what is). Show your support by heading to the website now and bidding on your favourite!

Sunday Rundown #1

19 June 2011

1. Rich and I have been doing some serious DIYing today! Thanks to some awesome thrift-hunting this week, we've been painting an antique dressing table for my dressing room (which is beauuutiful now, I must say) and hanging lots of pictures around the house. Photos to come in this weeks 'My week in thrifts' post.

2. Work has exhausted me this week! It is reinforcing the idea of wanting to work for myself, in my romantic ideal of owning a vintage shop whilst freelancing. Maybe it won't always be a dream, I just have to get through the next year and a half to finish this course before I can make it happen.

3. I've been having more guitar lessons from Rich today! I love it. Okay, so I'm really not very good, but it's nice having a bit of a hobby. The perk of being engaged to a guitar teacher is that I can bug him to help me every waking moment.

4. I really need a pretty summer dress for Saturday (Aussie's lusciously light summer soiree), but I only have about an hour free this entire week on wednesday afternoon in which to get one. So please, has anybody seen any nice ones on their travels?

New!

18 June 2011

Hey everyone,

Just to let you know (if you hadn't noticed already!) that I have renamed my blog Emily Divine's fashion blog or just Emily Divine for short! This is primarily down to the fact that the .com address for trash fashion was taken and there were no relevant domains available, meaning trash fashion is sadly no more! The content or style won't be changing, it'll still be the same blog you (hopefully!) love, with my OOTDs, thrift haul posts, reviews and general fashion news. Hope you're all ok.

Sweet Valley Fox - Wildfox S/S11 collection

17 June 2011

New York's Wildfox Couture, the American vintage-inspired women’s knitwear brand is set to debut their ‘Sweet Valley Fox’ collection for Summer 2011.

The collection is Inspired by the light-hearted teen drama of ever-popular 90’s book series Sweet Valley High. Wildfox designers Kim Gordon and Emily Faulstich have produced a range beaming with summer crushes, catchy phrases and best friendships every girl can relate to.

“My Boyfriend’s a Surfer” and “California Girl” are just some of the phrases thrown across tees; their bold fonts and bright graphics reflective of high school team sports and west coast beach life. New body styles for the season include a cropped oversized raglan Harley tee, an asymmetrical Crop tee and Charlie crop tank, and an epaulet-clad Bo Derek one piece.

Take a trip down memory lane back to the 90s - which Wildfox style will you be crushing on this summer? I'm loving the green polka dot hot pants in the first picture!

A birds eye view

12 June 2011

Hey everyone, how are you all? I've had such a nice weekend! I went to Rich's friends wedding on friday which was lovely and I absolutely loved my outfit but we were running late so I had no time to take any pictures, sob. On saturday, I went home to my mums for a day of cups of tea and biscuits, dog walking and window shopping. Today we (Rich and I) haven't done too much, but earlier he gave me my first ever guitar lesson, eep! It's surprising that he hasn't taught me before now seeing as his job is teaching guitar; he says I'm a natural - just being nice? I think so! It's all good fun though.

Today, I'm wearing this beautiful bird jumper that I was kindly sent from Pixie Knitwear. I absolutely love it! Although it's a jumper, it is so light weight that it's fab to wear even on warm sunny days. I love the birds motif, I'm definitely going to be taking it to the festivals I'm going to this year. I believe it's a piece from their sample sale, so a one-off for now, but they have lots of other gorgeous knitwear available and as it happens they're having a huge sale so snap up some bargains here!
p.s. If you haven'tdone already, make sure you enter my giveaway now! You could win your very own piece from Pixie Knitwear as well as lots of other fab things.
