One of lifes greatest pleasures is jumping in to a crisp hotel bed after a long day of exploring, relaxing and well, eating – all in equal measures of course. Last month, Rich and I snuck away to my favourite hotels in Rome, Indigo St George. I for one usually prefer to stay in independent hotels, but I make a firm exception for this place to stay. A chain it may be, but more so, it’s a boutique, 5 star hideaway right in the heart of Rome on Via Guilia.
By morning, we consumed a delicious buffet breakfast in the courtyard (…breakfast in bed was ordered just once, which was very restrained of me, in my opinion) before slipping down to the basement spa and lounging around. All but once during our stay, we had the Turkish bath, steam room and sauna all to ourselves which was a delight. To start the day with the smug glow you seem to acquire when you leave a spa is a very good way indeed.
The bedroom decor is right up my street; the perfect mix of classic italian architecture with charming window bays and high ceilings, paired with contemporary wall coverings (vintage fiat 500 wall paper, be mine) and brightly coloured furniture. If I’m honest, I would have been happy to move in for good. Most days, lunch would be spent wandering around the gorgeous streets littered with mopeds and around must-see monuments as they are all so close by. Depending on the day, stopping for gelato, a slice of pizza or at a bakery in between sights.
When night roles around, the Indigo St George really comes in to it’s own. The perfectly-lit rooftop terrace is where we spent most evenings, either for drinks after dinner in a local eatery or making the most of the fine dining on the terrace too. The chef is a genius, everything we ate was absolutely to die for and the service is spectacular. I’m still thinking about the Mille Feuille now…
The staff at the St George were so very, very helpful and charming. Always smiling and pleased to see us, even when lugging around my ridiculously packed bags or at 4am when ordering our airport transfer. An added bonus to staying here is that if you sign up with IHG Rewards Club, the money you spend booking the hotel earns you points that you can put towards future stays – pretty cool, huh? Staying at the Indigo St George was a pleasure, worth every single penny – if you have any questions about the hotel, staying in Rome, getting around or anything else, just ask as I’d be happy to help!
